The Stranded Sailors

The Stranded Sailors is probably the most important pre-studio project Sven has ever done, serving as a strong foundation on his present projects The Stranded Sailors shared a deep interest and left an impact on those who were involved or evolved because of it. Before Sven developed himself as an artist he used to work in a jeansstore located in the centre of Utrecht, The Netherlands. It was there he developed a love for denim and good quality products which resulted in the creation of The Stranded Sailors, born out of the urge to inspire others.

Filmmaker and Director Edwin van der Sande joined from day one and together with Sven they started to portray inspiring artists and craftmen. From there on other talented people joined the team and The Stranded Sailors quickly evolved into a mystical multi-concept agency, doing several international projects, collaborated with respected brands, artists and stores to launch and create products. English photographer Tim Collins joined The Stranded Sailors and together they created a really recognizable signature which became known

After one year The Stranded Sailors celebrated their first anniversary by translating their online concept to a offline event full of craftmen, artists and music. This was such a succes that they decided to start a event company and created customized events for brands such as HUGO BOSS, Fred de la Bretoniere, Hans Boodt and several others. The Stranded Sailors grew really quick and the media picked it up, it gained a lot of attention on National Television, Newspapers and other blogs.

They achieved some sort of mystical state because of their fellowship of dapper gentleman involved in different areas and projects.

After two years Sven decided to focus on his art and burried The Stranded Sailors. He believes that succes is not measured on the amount of followers but on the impact one has on individuals.

Story Telling

Filmmaker and Director Edwin van der Sande joined from day one and together with Sven they started to portray inspiring artists and craftmen. The movies were shared throughout the world and played a big part in the succes of The Stranded Sailors.

As a designer who has been used to work the whole day behind a screen, Jan den Hartogh realized he was missing something important in his life and that was the opportunity to make stuff with his hands. As a fan of the amazing atmosphere of heritage goods and brands he loves the fact that many of these companies have the wisdom to know the difference between progress and improvement, which is why a pair of Red Wings from 1905, or a Filson jacket from 1914 are largely the same as the way they make them today. They hit on a good thing, and were smart enough to stick with it. Inspired by real craftsmen, he decided to learn the skills himself and just by ‘learning by doing’ he managed to teach himself the making of quality leather goods. The handmade leather products from Duke & Sons Leather are inspired by heritage brands with authentic characteristics, which have been making the same quality products for decades without making any sacrifices to quality and material. Often these products are still made by hand or on the same machinery that has been used since the early twenties. Duke & Sons Leather makes quality products which will last a lifetime.
